Review of Not The Life I Expected, by THomas Nathan Kemper

NOT THE LIFE I EXPECTED, The story of young Ashley Joshua Windfoot, one time high school track star, is a story of how the struggle against adversity does not always turn out as we hope or expect. After winning a State high school track meet by a wide margin, Ashley dreams of running in the 2016 Summer Olympics, but his dreams are cut short when he gets beaten up for being a homosexual by a boy named Mark and some of his buddies, who do not want The U.S. represented by a homosexual. The beating ends Ashley's days as a runner by breaking his spine in just the right place to paralyze him from the waste down. But Ashley has never been one to shrink from a challenge, so he chooses to see being permanently confined to a wheelchair in this light. But Then, The Americans With Disabilities Act is completely repealed, making all guarantees of equal access cease to exist. As the infrastructure that granted People in Wheelchairs and those with other mobility issues equal access begins to crumble, so do Ashley's hopes for any kind of future at all. His parents David and Emily and his best friend Avery strive to keep his hopes alive and his spirits up, but as more and more Americans come to view the repeal as a positive step, this becomes increasingly difficult. I found this book to be very timely, and while the material is not exactly uplifting, it dos make some points that are long overdue at being made. I would recommend this book to anyone who is concerned about the current state of our country, and those who are not may find themselves of a new opinion if they do choose to read this book. My exchange with Dan Patrick over the Bathroom Bill

My Letter: Dear LT. Governor Patrick, Why are you so obsessed with this made up Bathroom Danger stuff. A person who is transitioning from a man to a woman is not just a man dressing up as a woman so that he can sneak into a Women's Bathroom to rape Women. People being in a body that is the wrong gender for who they are is a real medical diagnosis, and I'm sure no one enters into that kind of change lightly, I imagine some of the procedures are not ones you would undergo unless you were ABSOLUTELY sure. I would just ask you to remember that just because some of us are different does not make us any less Human Beings. Sincerely, Matt THE STORM Lucas Beckett. His Response: Dear MR. Beckett, Thank you for writing to me concerning The Bathroom Bill. I appreciate hearing from all of my constituents. That said, it appears to me that you are a deeply troubled young man, both in your confusion about what is really going on with so-called "Gender Reassignment" and with regard to your own sexuality. I know much is being said today about letting people be themselves, but I myself still firmly believe that Homosexuality is a Mental and Spiritual Illness, and while I abhor the very idea, which some advocate, of murder in any form, I do believe that treatment is the best option for people like you. If you are interested, I can offer some names of places that offer Conversion Therapy, also called Corrective Therapy, for your consideration. Even if you are not ready now, maybe someday you will be, so why not get them now? As always, I appreciate your thoughts and it is an honor to serve you and all Texans. Dan Patrick, LT. After sending those other two letters to the editor, I began to worry about the legal ramifications of publishing someone else's actual email, but this is a word for word exact transcription of our exchange, that shows his true character, even if as such it would not "hold up in Court" without the original, and showing his character is the point of publicizing this letter.

THE WHEEL CHAIR CHALLENGE ONE BETTER

I solute the young man who took the initiative to raise the money to get wheelchair friendly doors installed at his school and is pushing for the same for other schools. However, it is because of his hero Greg Abbott and every other Republican Attorneys General in the country that the school no longer falls under the jurisdiction of The Americans with Disabilities Act, which would have required it to be handicapped accessible without needing individuals to organize fundraisers and such. Therefore, perhaps a better challenge would be to challenge Greg Abbott and other elected Republicans with Disabilities to spend forty-eight hours getting around state and locally owned public buildings without having their flunkies present to carry them up and down stairs in places that have decided to save money by not having handicapped accommodations, and then see how they feel about state sovereign immunity. Just a thought.
